Guide

The home inspector website checklist.

Use this checklist to review your current site, or to brief whoever builds your next one.

The basics a buyer looks for

  • Your business name, the towns you serve, and a way to book, all visible without scrolling on a phone.
  • A booking button on every page, linked to your scheduler.
  • A clear list of the inspection services you offer, each with its own page or section.
  • A sample report, or screenshots of one, so buyers and agents know what they'll get.
  • Your credentials, described accurately in your state's or province's terms.
  • Real photos of you and your work.
  • Contact details that match your Google Business Profile.

Technical items

  • Speed: the site loads quickly on a phone on a cellular connection. Test it with Google's PageSpeed Insights.
  • Mobile layout: text is readable and buttons are easy to tap without zooming.
  • HTTPS: the site has a valid SSL certificate.
  • Titles and descriptions: each page has a unique title and meta description that says what's on it.
  • One H1 per page that matches the page's topic.
  • Structured data: schema markup describing your business, services, and service area.
  • Sitemap and robots.txt so search engines can find every page.
  • Text in the HTML, not loaded only by JavaScript, so search engines and AI tools can read it.

Content that helps you get found

  • A page for each town you serve, written about that town. See our city page guide.
  • An FAQ that answers what buyers ask before booking.
  • Blog posts that answer real buyer questions.
  • An llms.txt file that summarizes your business for AI tools. See AI search for home inspectors.

Ownership

Make sure your domain is registered in your name and that you can take your content with you if you switch providers.
